Postpartum Clothes with PinkBlush

Friday, October 13, 2017

Remember when I did a "Wish I Knew Wednesday" post about pregnancy and postpartum self-care? Particularly about wishing that I had comfy postpartum clothes the first time around? Well, I have practically been living in oversized tops and baggy pants the last few weeks, including my hospital robe and pajama pants from PinkBlush.

However...there does come a time during postpartum when you want NEED to doll yourself up, but it can be difficult to hide that little belly pooch...unless you're one of those lucky ladies who has a six-pack right after giving birth, NYEH! Luckily, a lot of PinkBlush's maternity clothes can be worn postpartum AND are nursing friendly.

This maternity/nursing top from PinkBlush is great to wear anytime anywhere, and the material is super stretchy and breathable. You can easily pair it with solid/patterned leggings or skinny jeans and finish off the look with strappy booties and a flat-brimmed hat. But today, I just stuck with my good ol' black leggings and brown sandals. I'm not up for skinny jeans and boots juuust yet; but the holidays are coming up, so you can bet that I'll be wearing this top again with some sweet accessories.

This little guy is my best accessory anyway. ;)

This maternity/nursing top can be found HERE.
(Also available in a variety of colors!)

It's always nice to look decent every once in a while. And now, I'm back in my pajama pants and spit-up stained shirt, with my hair up in the ugliest bun ever. Can't wait to have the energy, time, and motivation to look half decent again!

Until next time!

**Disclaimer: The clothing showcased above was gifted to me by PinkBlush in exchange for a review. All opinions in this post are my own.**

Herrera Family Update

Thursday, October 12, 2017

Sheesh, time is flying - it's already been 3 weeks since our sweet Henry was born! We took him to his pediatrician today for a regular check-up, and we're happy to report that he has gained his weight back (and then some) and has also grown 3/4 of an inch. He is still a little jaundiced, so the doctor recommended that he get his bilirubin levels checked (which we did). We'll have the results later today, so let's hope everything is normal.

As for everything else, it's been going great! I cannot be more thankful because it wasn't this "easy" with Owen. I know, I know...it's not nice to compare, but, honestly, don't all mothers do this? But to be fair, I healed faster, I'm healthier, and Ralph and I have been through this before.

Ralph has been Super Dad these last few weeks. Since I've had to devote most of my time taking care of Henry, Ralph has taken over being the primary caretaker for Owen...and now they're BFFs. They even went to Disneyland without me and Henry. *Sniff* Just kidding. Sort of. (Now I know how Ralph felt when Owen and I went on our Disney dates while he was at work.)

Owen continues to be the doting big brother and is constantly smothering Henry with kisses. He panics whenever he hears the baby cry and tries to console him by going, "Shhhh, it's okay, baby. Don't cry." And this morning, I caught Owen giving the baby his pacifier. *Insert heart eyes emoji here* I really hope Owen keeps this up...at least, for the next several months. They have their entire lives to bicker, hahaha.

As for me, I'm doing great. Our first day home, I was able to do almost everything on my own, even take a shower. (I remember my first home shower after having Owen...it was a whooole production, and I was completely dependent on Ralph.) Thank God I healed as quickly as I did, or Ralph would have lost his mind.

For the most part, we've just been taking it easy. We've gone to a few outings (mostly Target and coffee runs), and we've even taken Owen to Irvine Park (where we had his 2nd birthday party) to visit the Pumpkin Patch. Fortunately, we went before the Canyon 2 Fire broke out.

Ralph will be returning to work on Monday (noooo!), so the next few days will be spent just relaxing at home. I'll be needing all the rest I can get. And caffeine. And Jesus. (Seriously, how do moms with 3 kids do it? Or multiples?)

Until next time!

Henry's Name

Sunday, October 1, 2017

I don't know about you other boy parents out there, but naming a boy was hard for me...and I had to do it twice! When I found out I was pregnant again, I immediately started a list of names for both boys and girls; and the list of girl names kept growing and growing while the list of boy names stayed at two names - and no, neither was Henry.

So how did we come up with Henry Raphael? This is a question that we still get asked a lot, and the answer is: we have no clue... I think, one day, I just asked Ralph to say a random letter, and I would look online and tell him which names I liked starting with that particular letter. And through that process, we ended up with Henry.

And then came the challenge of the second name...and finding/choosing THIS one was harder than the first name. Luckily, my dad came to the rescue! Owen's second name is Michael, and we chose that name because Michael is the patron saint of police officers/firefighters/paramedics/military (in honor of Ralph's line of work).

So my dad suggested Raphael, Gabriel, and Nathaniel. We already have two Gabriels on Ralph's side of the family, and I wasn't really liking Nathaniel. So I did a little bit of research on Raphael, and I learned that he is the patron saint of medical workers such as physicians and NURSES (which I am); so that was it for me. I was sold on Henry Raphael. BUT...would Ralph like it?

And then I remembered that Ralph was OBSESSED with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when he was younger; and one of his favorite quotes to say from one of the movies is, "A little TOO Raph." (Here's the clip from the movie to understand the reference.) Long story short, I told Ralph about the TMNT reference and the fact that we're totally naming our sons after the Ninja Turtles (there's a Raphael and a MICHAELangelo); he replied with a laugh and said, "Lock it in."

We kept his name a secret until he was born because we know how people can be with their opinions, which is why we called him Rerun throughout my pregnancy. Rerun is in reference to Lucy's and Linus's little brother from the Peanuts comic strips. When Lucy found out that she was having another little brother, she said it was like watching reruns on television; and that's when Linus suggested that the baby's name should be Rerun. And you know what? The nickname could not have been more perfect because Henry looks EXACTLY like his big brother.

I mean...IT'S THE SAME BABY.

So that's how his name came to be. Other tidbits about his name:
  • Ralph liked the name Henry because he can call him "Hank".
  • Owen has a hard time pronouncing the name and says "Hanky" instead.
  • His initials are HRH, which also stand for "His Royal Highness" (NOT intentional, believe me).
  • Henry means "home ruler".
  • Henry is the real name of Indiana Jones, which made Ralph and I love the name even more. (Wow, we are such...dorks.)

Until next time!
